Meet the Artists: Joel Deitch and Jane Neville

A brief introduction to the two of the 12 artists participating in the Art Sale and Fine Wine + Rare Spirits Auction

Joel Deitch

Joel DeitchI love Daufuskie, visiting the island frequently with my family since 1987 (my mother lives full-time down at Bloody Point). As a result, much of my photography centers on the visual rhythms of the island – sand, water, woods, and sky. I work almost exclusively in color using a digital SLR whose size and lens selection maximizes spontaneity. Most of my imagery explores surface, movement, texture, and moment rather than documenting a place and time. I often remove the horizon or otherwise leave the viewer without a reliable point of reference.

Since scale affects perception, these photographs become more organic, more present. Whether abstract or representational, they are anything but “fast food photography.” Viewers must engage with each image, to find their place within its space.

I studied photography at Princeton University, graduating with a degree in art history and visual arts.

Jane Neville Photography

Jane NevilleMy goal as an artist is to share the beautiful city of Savannah and the surrounding coastal areas, hoping to capture the "spirit" of these venues.

I am a resident of Savannah, a member of the Savannah Arts Association, and a participant of many local art fairs and shows. I am a regular at The Telfair Arts Festival, The Isle of Hope Art Show, and Glynn Visual Arts Festivals in St. Simon's, Georgia. As well as, a supporter of The Island’s Market, and First Friday and Saturday on the River, Savannah, and The Daufuskie Island Art Show. I have been a workshop leader for the Georgia Nature Photographers Association for their annual convention, and am a jury member for the Savannah Waterfront Association.

I give back to the community by contributing my art to many local organizations including The Second Harvest Food Bank, Girls on the Run, the Leukemia's cup Regatta, and Park Place Outreach.

My work is available in a select way, at Artsy's Gallery on Broughton St. and Gallery 11 in City Market in Savannah. In addition to framed and unframed prints, I re-purpose old windows as frames for some of my photos, saving them from the landfill.

My work has also been featured in South magazine in a major advertising campaign.
Please view my work on my Website: janenevillephotography.com

Be sure to view both of these artists' work at the Art Sale and Fine Wine + Rare Spirits Auction benefiting the Haig Point Foundation on Sunday, November 10th1
